The density or weight of a given volume of liquid can be determined by using the AMC MUD BALANCE. The balance is constructed so that the fixed volume cup at one end of the beam is balanced by a fixed counterweight at the opposite end, with a sliding weight rider free to move along the graduated scale. POTASSIUM CHLORIDE (KCl) is a soluble salt that is an extremely efficient shale stabiliser when drilling hydro sensitive clays and shales. Inhibition is provided through ion exchange; the potassium ion enters between the individual clay platelets in the shale so that they are held together, thus eliminating entry of water from the drilling fluid.
